Hi , Selection of tiles for bathroom is different from any other room because for bathroom we need slide proof and skidding proof surface. Most of the time bathroom surface is slips due to soap lathers and sticky substances. So there is need to have a slightly water proof flooring

In India generally two types of tiles are preferred as floor tiles in bathroom mentioned below

  1. Ceramic tiles
  2. Porcelain tiles

Comparisons of porcelain tile and ceramic tile:

  • Ceramic tile can be used as both walls and for so it gives a seemless look. These tiles are cost effective as compared to porcelain tiles
  • Porcelain tiles on other hand are quite costlier than ceramic tiles but it is worth investment in longer runs.

Which kind of tile will be used for bathroom flooring and wall?

Bathroom tiles are available in a surprising number of materials. ceramic, porcelain, and vinyl tiles are what come to mind first, and for good reasons. But there are many options available today, from wood and cork to stone and glass.

There are two types of tiles used in bathrooms:

  • Bathroom floor tiles are primarily used for 2 purposes, one they should have antiskid properties, two they should help reducing water seepage.
  • Bathroom wall tiles are primarily used in bathrooms to cover all the plumbing and electric lines, Crisscrossing across the bathroom. And then it also prevents, fungi, algae, germs, so it is hygienic.

But there are some key differences between wall tile and floor tile. Tiles made for flooring are very strong and resist wear and tear. When it comes to tiling the walls, you’re not limited to wall tiles. Floor tiles can also be used on the walls and, in fact, they often are, for a variety of reasons.

Floor tiles are generally larger, so those who want large tiles on their walls will likely choose a floor tile. There’s a growing trend of running the floor tile up the walls of the bathroom.

But it’s important to understand that not all floor tiles can necessarily be installed on all walls. You have to consider the weight of the tiles and the adhesive and ensure your wall can hold the weight.

Most popular and commonly used tiles are for example:

1. Vinyl Tiles

Vinyl tiles are the most commonly used in bathrooms. It is easier to install and eco-friendly since it is reusable. It’s less prone to cracks and breaking. Mainly most people use it because of its low cost than the ceramic tiles and also popular for safety, comfort, and durability.

Pros:

  • Inexpensive.
  • Resilient.
  • Easier to install.

Cons:

  • Not as beautiful as ceramic, porcelain, or other tiles.

2. Ceramic Tiles

Ceramic tiles are a type of tile that has a wide range of selection, from color, sizes, shapes to finishes, and texture. These kinds of tiles are not easy to break, easy maintenance, and cost-effective. Ceramics are not as easy to install as vinyl.

Pros:

  • Glazed ceramic doesn’t absorb water.
  • Durable.
  • Relatively inexpensive.
  • Huge variety of colors and designs.

Cons:

  • Not as impervious to water as porcelain (but also not as expensive as porcelain tiles).

3. Porcelain Tiles

Porcelain is an excellent tile for your bathroom. Compared to traditional ceramic, it’s harder, more durable, more scratch-resistant, absorbs less water, and is more stain resistant. Porcelain and ceramic they belong to the same family, they are more like cousins than twins.

With respect to options, you can get porcelain tiles in many colors and to mimic other natural materials such as wood and stone. If you’re installing radiant heating, porcelain is perfectly suitable for that as well.

Pros:

  • Extremely durable.
  • Many color options.
  • Looks great.
  • Highly water-resistant.

Cons:

  • Expensive.

4. Stone Tiles

Stone tiles are becoming popular nowadays, made from marble, granite, limestone, and slate. The selection of colors is ranging from creams to blues, reds, and greens. However, stone tiles require more maintenance in terms of regular cleaning and this is more expensive than the other types of tiles.

Types of Stone tiles are:

  1. Marble Tile
  2. Granite Tiles
  3. Limestone Tiles
  4. Slate Tiles

Pros

  • Unquestionably beautiful.
  • They are eco-friendly.
  • Sturdy as well as durable.
  • They offer a reasonable amount of insulation.

Cons

  • Stone flooring is expensive.
  • Some can be brittle and prone to scratching or chipping.
  • Any damage caused is difficult to rectify.

Thank You.
