What is the difference between Declination and Dip?

Declination:

I am providing more additional information about the declination, have a look.

Here, I Attached a diagram of declination, through that we can clearly understand positive as well as negative declination.

  1. Whenever declination is towards the Eastwood direction then that declination is called positive declination.

  2. When a declination is going towards west word direction then it is called negative declination.

True bearing is the sum of magnetic bearing plus declination.

Thank you.

Magnetic Dip

It is the inclination of magnetic needle of compass with horizontal Dip is 0 at equator, 90° at poles. Dip is not constant.

Magnetic Declination Magnetic declination is the horizontal ∠betn True Meridian & Magnetic Meridian through the pt under consideration.

Types

Declination west (θW)

If the magnetic meridian is on the left side of true meridian, the angle formed betn the two meridians is Declination west.

Declination east (θE)

If the magnetic meridian is on the right side of true meridian, the angle formed betn the two meridians is Declination east.

Magnetic declination is the angle between the Magnetic North and True North. Magnetic Dip however is the angle between magnetic field lines and the horizontal plane at a particular location on the planet.

Magnetic dip, dip angle, or magnetic inclination is the angle made with the horizontal by the Earth’s magnetic field lines. This angle varies at different points on the Earth’s surface.

Hi, The difference between true meridian and magnetic meridian is called a decimation. It changes from place to place and also affect due to local errors. The difference between horizontal line and magnetic line of field  is called as magnetic dip. True north is a fixed point on the earth. Magnetic north is different. It is the direction that a compass needle points towards the alignment of Earth’s magnetic field. Since, its position is contii changing, and again magnetic north and true north will align.

Difference between declination and dip:

Here

I will share with you a specific definition of declination and dip, have a look.

Declination is just an angle that is in between the magnetic north and true north.

Whereas magnetic dip is an angle between magnetic field lines and a horizontal plane at a particular location on the planet.

Thank You.
