In which type of soil can we use pile foundation?

explain briefly about pile foundation and in which type of soil it can be used?

Where am I?

In TheConstructor you can ask and answer questions and share your experience with others!

Pile foundations are habitually used for large structures and in certain situations where the soil at shallow depth is unsuitable to withstand excessive settlement & resist uplift.

Thank You.

Hi, To understand which type of soil is used for pile Foundation first you must need to know what is pile Foundation.

Pile Foundation is a Deep Foundation provided when a hard stratum is at great depth. If the soil is not taking the load then piles must be driven into the soil up to 3 to 4 m depth. Piles may be made up of concrete or steel.

So, pile Foundation is used for soil with less bearing capacity. When a hard rock stratum of soil is found at reasonable depth then pile Foundation should be provided. The soil about the pet rock must support skin friction resistance.

Pile Foundation is provided for,

  • If horizontal forces are present
  • A week soil is present
  • If soil is expensive in nature and has a soundness property.
  • The location has Chances of soil erosion.
